I started incubating 54 eggs for a friend, they want a couple and I can keep or sell the rest. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do yet. Either way I love the incubating and hatching process and would do it all year around if I had the demand.

Quail are definitely bringing the eggs in now. Getting over a dozen per day currently. The eggs continue to be delicious and cute.
This other rooster is getting pretty big. I was hoping this was a girl, until I noticed changes a few months ago. One of the first chickens to crow from that batch. He’s pretty friendly and loves the hens.
The girl goats are always up to something… they still love to come say hi like this when they hear me taking care of the chickens. Another thing I learned is that Cayuga ducks ( my black ones ) if they are male have green heads and girls are black. According to that I should have 2 boys and 1 girl. I still have quite a few months before they start laying to know for sure. I’m not sure on the pekin ducks. Another way is boys are suppose to have a few curled feathers in their tail, but none of them look curled for my white or black ducks. So…. I will have to see what happens.

I hard boiled my first batch of quail eggs today. The nicest thing is that it only takes 4 minutes. They are a cute snack! Super tasty too.

My girl goats are now obsessed with me, spending plenty of time with them each day and they follow me everywhere. The last batch of quail for the year I think is done hatching. Little better then a 60% hatch rate… so I’m slowly getting better. Dreaming of the 95-98% days.

I did some exploring in an area I haven’t ventured to yet, I found tons of raspberry bushes everywhere. I randomly drove to another area later and found another huge patch so I’m excited to see what I can do with them! Otherwise I think the best purchase for quail were the hideouts. They love hanging out in or around them.

Put together a hay loft to store the hay! Todays day 17 for the other batch of quail and I have 14 so far hatched. Hatching anything is always super exciting. Sadly I think this is the last batch of quail I’ll be doing this year.

I got my first few dozen chicken eggs sold! Excited for more and more chicken eggs. Before I know it I’ll be getting dozens daily. I also bought my first batch of hay. The goats love it. The ducks love it. The chickens enjoy it lol. Hoping these bales last until winter, then I’ll have to reup to keep the goats fed all winter.

When I was gone the 20 quail I bought started laying. The quail all got new hide outs, the girls love laying there eggs in them already.

I decided to make a day trip up north. My favorite thing is fishing, if the fishing good. Lucky for me it always is here. Just catching and releasing today, didn’t wanna clean fish today lol.

I set up my younger chicks with the goats and older chickens to get them used to each other. I feel a lot better about having the chicks in an outdoor pen then in the quail coop. The goats have decided to play on it constantly though. It was put together pretty quick so it’s not the sturdiest so I’m assuming the goats will probably break it.
Then there’s my rooster. I love him. He’s the biggest and always hangs out with the adult hens. He is protective and good at alerting of potential dangers. He’s not to sure of me yet. Almost daily I try to get him to eat out of my hand but he just looks at me. The hen in the back that has some feathers missing on her head is one of my first chickens I brought onto this property. She lost her head feathers last winter when I took in a few to many roosters for someone and the hen to rooster ratio wasn’t close to where it should be.
I had a lot of fun with my girl goats today. I did a project in there pens and they got lots of attention during.
My ducks are so big!!! I’m excited for them to start laying eggs.
Today I went to a baby shower… I got a prize..!!! The goal was to make the best “baby” out of bubble gum in a certain amount of time I’m not sure exactly but it was under 5 minutes. Butttt I won because I made twins. I don’t know… pretty proud of my masterpieces so I thought I’d share :)
Otherwise I’m just waiting for more quail to hatch. I have over 40 now. Still about 2 or so more days until they should be done. Hoping at least 20 more hatch.
Well todays day 16 for the big batch of quail and I’ve had 16 make it to the brooder so far. I wasn’t expecting any to hatch today so every hatch has made me super excited! The incubator is getting less cramped now lol. Still lots to go!!

I got some close up animal pictures lol.. The older quail I bought are doing well and settling in good. They are starting to grow feathers back slowly but surely. My goat marge wanted to say hi from the chicken entrance.

I added another batch of quail eggs in my other incubator. I will see how many I end up with this time.. the display on the incubator didn’t match a humidity/temp gauge I put in there last time… then it stopped working and I didn’t realize so the humidity wasn’t near where it needed to be for the last hatch, so keeping a real close eye on it this time. Lots of little things like that can effect your hatch rate greatly.. I have only had good hatch rates with chickens at 88% hatch rate my first and only round with them. The first batch of quail was a 22% hatch rate with the humidity and temperature not working correctly. Hoping I’m able to get at least 50% on both of the batches I have in the incubator currently. The ones that did hatch are doing great still. Super cute and pretty entertaining. I love hearing listening to them chirp. There’s one that always sleeps with it’s feet straight out so I thought I’d share.
I think the girl goat / chicken area has definitely gotten out of hand with how tall everything is. It’s at least chest high to me. The girls and chickens seem to get around just fine, so it doesn’t seem to bother them. The girls always have full forage bellies, so they’re eating it just a lot slower then it’s growing.
One of my favorite things is watching the animals.. Chickens are definitely always doing something and are pretty entertaining. I’m waiting patiently for these guys to grow…. Excited to have all the chickens together in a few weeks hopefully.
Have you ever just found a deal just to good to pass up? Well that’s been happening a lot to me recently. I found some quail that are 80% cheaper then the average price. 5 weeks so they’ll start to lay eggs within the next few weeks. The downside is they were housed with chickens at the place I got them from, and they are a little mean… Almost every quail I got has no feathers on its back. Google says they’ll grow back inbetween 1-12 months so we’ll see when they all get feathers again..

I got two roosters processed yesterday… made them into literal fried chicken. Have quite a few more to either rehome or eat. The kittens are getting bigger and are very comfortable here lol. They are definitely crazy and full of energy almost 24/7. Great entertainment 💕

Lots of stuff going on here.. goats got sick so spent the weekend getting the medicine that they needed and treating them. It looked like it really did work overnight. There was definitely night and day difference the next day after the first dose. The last video I attached is to show how much quail grow in 1-3 days. The little one hatched last night and is completely dry just crusty… lol. It spent most of its first minutes cleaning itself and now it’s taking a nap under the heat lamp.

Quail have been hatching daily. Have 6 currently. Have a few more from this batch looking like they’ll be hatching soon. ( I kept added eggs 4/5 days after I started the first ones, I wanted to fill my incubator lol…) if you’ve never seen an egg wiggle you should! I’ve never seen one wiggle so much, it was definitely cool I was able to capture a video!

Got 74 more chickens today….. between 4 months and a few weeks old. Most of these are polish chickens, got some more Easter eggers, Rhode Island reds, and the rest are polish crosses.

I’m not sure why I waited so long to check what genders my quail were but I have 6 females out of 13. I have removed 4 boys I plan on eating this week. It’s a lot less chaotic with the hens now. I got 50 more quail eggs for my incubator! They have to sit out for 12 hours then I can put them in, counting down the minutes…

A lot has been happening here. I have had a lot of chickens “go missing” and have been finding them after the one dog who’s able to get them by putting his head through the fence. Also a chicken flew into an outdoor dog kennel that one also didn’t make it. Second picture is a rooster that had kinda a bum leg last week and found him under stuck under a pallet. I’m not sure how long he was under there. ( thinking 2/3 days ) So I have definitely lost too many.. I literally think this week I have lost 10 chickens at least.

Collecting eggs never gets old. It’s always a surprise everyday how many your going to get. I’ve loved the puppy stage with Rue, looks like that stage is coming to an end soon.

I am starting to get quite the collection of eggs. I think it’s about time to maybe start trying to sell them! I did pick up 3 new kittens this morning! Just for right now I’m keeping them in the dog kennel when I’m not inside just to prevent any injuries to the kittens from any other animals. Just starting to work on introducing everyone to the new additions!

Can you spy the goats in the last picture? It’s always a game of I-spy when I go check on them.
Okay so today’s definitely been a good day! I was able to get my male goat pen created and picked up a buddy for Homer… his name is Flanders and he is another alpine. He is debudded… but there’s definitely horns growing back on him so we’ll see what happens with that. Otherwise they have gotten along great and I’m excited to see how this goes!
