We are deep in post production on The Stylist and so I've been preparing notes and references for our composer, Nicholas Elert. I thought I would share the list of references I provide him with you all -- normally no one outside of the film gets to see this stuff until after it's released!
This morning we did a pick up shot for The Stylist -- so I'm officially calling it "Day 20" of the shoot. 😂 We got a morning shot of the exterior of Claire's house (Claire is THE Stylist) to add near the end of the film. As of now, we only show her house from the outside once, near the start of the film at night. We realized the film could benefit from a transition into our third act. I was also concerned it wasn't clear to our audience that it's suppose to be the "next day" in the film. So, I thought perfect way to show that is an exterior shot. Plus, it would be a nice bookend on the film, to show it during the day - opposite of the how we show it at night near the opening of the film. Not to mention, this house is SO cool. How could we not show it off at least twice?!
This week we've made HUGE strides in post production on THE STYLIST! To catch you up, if you don't know, this is my first feature length film as a director, writer and producer. I made a short film 5 years ago with the same title, same concept that you can watch for free now! (on youtube, ALTER, vimeo, my website).
Last Friday our editor, John Pata, sent us the "fine cut" of the film. And I was blown away by HOW BLOWN AWAY I WAS by this new cut. I say that because I was already in love with our "rough cut" and couldn't imagine loving it THIS much more was even possible. So, that's fucking great, to say the least! From the rough cut to the fine cut the film now feels so much more through Claire's (the lead character) perspective, which is my goal with the film. I want our viewers to be right there with Claire, to experience everything as she does. It's honestly my hope that we make you all fall in love with her.. to become completely delusional by your sympathy for her... to bring you so far on her side... to the point that you start to dislike other characters for no reason other than because Claire doesn't like them.. and so you almost completely forget she's a serial killer.
Throwing it back even further in honor of Thursday... I mean I don't even know how long ago this was.. at least 11-12 years! Barely any tattoos! Baby Jill! photo credit: eyeworks photography
