I started incubating Cayuga duck eggs. They are the completely black ducks. They are one of my favorite breeds. I have 9 eggs incubating, we’ll see how many hatch.

I can’t believe it’s already been three weeks with the puppies. Time has been flying by. They are so cute. There eyes are open. They are still pretty wobbly walking. They have tons of personality already.

So I moved the chicks outside. They have gotten so big! I’m excited to continue to watch them grow. I have 40 exactly still. Definitely going to need a bigger coop soon.

I lost quail for the first time from a predator. Whatever it was took out an entire level of quails and didn’t leave any left standing. The rest of the quail seem to be doing good. I haven’t had any more eggs since the last three.

Officially at that two weeks old. They are so cute. They are starting to open their eyes. You can barely see in the second picture but they are opening! I think these next couple of weeks are going to be very fun!

Meana and Silver wanted to go outside when I let the dogs out. So they watched the dogs with me. They weren’t to sure about the snow. So they stayed on the deck.

This is Tuck. Tuck has been a good boy lately. He is everyone’s chew toy and is in the center of all playing at all times. He’s the one everyone loves both dogs and humans. He’s getting to be a big boy. I think he’s finally done growing though.

So I candled my eggs. It looks like I have some chicks in there. So that’s good news. Roughly probably halfway to hatch date if not a little closer. I’m so excited. These will be a mixed breed of chickens I’m pretty sure. So I’ll have two sets of purebred chickens and one set of mixed breed. I’m hoping to get 15 to hatch.

I’ve gotten 6 eggs so far from the quail this year. These 3 eggs I found on the same level as the first 3 eggs. So only one level of quails are laying so far. They aren’t laying very much yet. But they’ll pick up as the weather gets better.

The puppies have almost been here for a week now. And they are amazing. They mostly sleep still. When they are awake they are noisy though. They love to try to bark.

This is daisy. She is the lightest puppy. She’s obviously adorable. She loves to cuddle her mom. All of them are starting to move around so much. They are all around the same size and two weighed the same amount today. They grow so much each day too. Everyone has only gained weight so that’s a very good sign.

So I did something that was bad. I started the eggs and never wrote down when I started them. So now I have no clue when they were started. It’s been 10 days since I’ve posted about this batch originally. I don’t think I started it on the day I posted. I think they were already incubating for a day or two already when I posted at least.

My goats are doing good. The boys have loved being with the girls. The extra space for them is very nice. The girls should be getting bred now. Hoping for some babies this year.

Sunday is rues due date. She’s getting bigger everyday. I’m so excited for puppies. I have everything ready now if she does have them early. She’s been such a good cuddler lately, always wanting to cuddle. She also has been more tired since being pregnant so a lot of more naps.

I started jalapeños again. My first round of all my veggies aren’t showing any signs of growing. So I think I’m giving up on those. Jalapeños are a great pepper to start early because they have a longer grow time with 70-74 days until harvestable. So these I could possibly have ready by June if they go. We’ll see. This is my first year also trying to grow things early before the ground is ready because I have an idea for the garden and I want all started plants when I go to plant them.

So I failed again with the incubator. I was keeping it in the well house and I kept hearing beeping coming from the incubator on cold days. It couldn’t keep the temperature warm enough. So I started over. This will be my last batch using this incubator. It’s inside now. I’m babying it. So we’ll see what happens.

Rhode Island Red is the name of these chicks. They on average lay more around 200-300 eggs per year. They are pretty active and curious. These chicks don’t devour the mealworms like the lavender Orpingtons. They seem to leave a few here and there instead of making sure they eat them all.

My wheatgrass is growing good. Almost one other batch done. I’ll probably let it grow for another 4-5 more days. We’ll see. I wonder how tall it’ll grow. Right now there’s still a ton of sprouts just popping out of the seeds so they aren’t grass yet. So it should be thicker too.

Lavender Orpington Chickens is a very good breed of chicken to have. They are super pretty but also are super weather hardy so perfect for my cold winters. They lay 170-200 eggs a year which is a pretty average chicken. I’m excited to see how these guys grow.
